Holographic gratings are commonly used in applications that are sensitive to stray light. The substrate is coated with photosensitive material. The substrate coated with photosensitive material is placed between the monochromatic light produced by the laser and the intersecting beam composed of coherent beams, which make the photosensitive material sensitize. The intersecting laser beam produces a series of parallel and equidistant interference fringes, whose intensity varies according to the shape of sinusoidal curve. Since the solubility of photosensitive materials is determined by the light intensity irradiated to them, interference fringes show different light intensity on the surface of photosensitive materials. We can coat a reflective coating on the substrate of holographic grating and use the same process to replicate that used for initial gratings. Because the shape and line spacing of holographic grating are uniform, the stray light is much less than ruled gratings.
